On-Campus Housing
Graduate housing is open to graduate, medical and RUE (Resumed Undergraduate Education) students. Graduate and medical students will be given priority over RUE students. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Graduate housing is located in Miller Hall. The building is open year round, which is often helpful to graduate students especially during the winter and summer breaks. Two contract options are available:
- Summer 2009 - contract period: Monday, June 1, 2009 - Monday, August 10, 2009 (tentative fee - $1,672)
- Academic Year - contract period: Thursday, August 20, 2009 - Monday, May 31, 2010 (tentative fee - $6,360)
The housing rates for 2009-2010 have not been finalized. On average the fees rise between 3-5% annually. The above rates are therefore estimated.
Partial Contract Option
Students who do not need to stay for the entire summer contract period have the option of paying $30/day or $175/week. The move-in date for the start of a partial contract must be on a weekday between the hours of 8am and 4pm so that our office is open for key pickup.
New applicants for graduate housing will begin their contracts in August 2009, unless their academic program begins prior to this time and they desire housing for the summer period (full or partial summer contract options available). This must be indicated at the time of application. Students enrolled as of Fall must remain in housing for the entire academic year. We cannot guarantee that housing will be available for students starting at Brown in January. Students will not need to vacate their rooms during the winter break period from late December to mid-January. Students whose contract ends at mid-year in December due to graduation, withdrawal or leave of absence will need to vacate their rooms prior to the winter break. A student may forfeit the room charge if he/she moves from Miller Hall before the end of the contract for a reason other than one of those listed above.
Applications for graduate and medical student housing are available online. An application may also be requested by calling (401-863-3500) or emailing the Office of Residential Life.
